17-year-old Filipina-American singer Olivia Rodrigo stands on top of Spotify Music Charts, Apple Music and U.S. iTunes.
Amazing Filipina-American singer-songwriter, Olivia Rodrigo, tops U.S. and Global Streaming Music Charts after releasing her debut single, ‘Drivers License’ on January 8.
In her interview with Billboard, the 17-year-old girl admitted she was going through a heartbreak while writing the song. “When I came up with ‘Driver’s License,’ I was going through a heartbreak that was so confusing to me, so multifaceted,” Olivia recalled. The teen star had explained that it made her feelings “much simpler and clearer” whenever she starts songwriting.
Drivers License had been called an early contender for “Song of the Year” by Rolling Stone after its successful launch. The debut song quickly climbed up the charts standing at No.1 in among popular music streaming charts, like Apple Music’s Top 100, Spotify’s Global Top 100, and iTunes Top 100.
Rodrigo had expressed her dumb struck excitement and happiness over her Instagram account saying, “So drivers license is the number one song in the world rn never in my wildest dreams did I expect this. thank u guys so much for listening. I can’t believe this is real life.”
The music video embodies the lyrics of the song as Rodrigo drives by her ex-boyfriend’s street reminiscing a painful heartbreak. It accumulated 18 million views on Youtube only days after it’s release.
Even Taylor Swift had sent an encouraging congratulatory comment over Rodrigo’s Instagram account.
The teen singer-songwriter had been using her talents for one of the main characters of “Highschool Musical: The Musical: The Series”. Rodrigo is also an actress for Disney Channel’s series ‘Bizaardvark’ who plays the role of Paige Olvera. Her first appearance on screen was in a commercial for Old Navy. Rodrigo was raised with her Filipino father and German-Irish mother. As she grew she discovered her passion for singer and songwriting, however, she also entered theater which harnessed her talent for acting.
