FILIPINO SOAP OPERAS THAT BECAME POPULAR IN SOUTHEAST ASIA.
Did you know that aside from Korean’s TV series, Filipino soap operas are also popular in other neighboring countries?. In fact, these shows have given the Filipino celebrities an opportunity to be part of an international scenes and even promote their shows abroad.
Below are the list of Filipino shows that has been shown in other countries.
1. Pangako Sa’Yo
Pangako Sa’yo was a hit soap opera of ABS-CBN in 2000. It introduced the love story of Yna, (Kristine Hermosa) and Angelo (Jericho Rosales), and the talk of the town feud of Amor Powers (Eula Valdez) and Claudia Buenavista (Jean Garcia). Aside from our country, Pangako Sa’yo also became a hit in some other countries such as Singapore and Malaysia and is now airing in Latin America and Africa. Cambodia also adapted Pangako Sa’yo and make it a show with the title “The Promise” where it was aired from 2013 to 2014.
In 2015, Pangako Sa’yo was revived by the real life couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla who played Yna and Angelo. The revival of Pangako Sa’yo became a hit in Vietnam and Indonesia.
2. On the Wings of Love
On the Wings of Love or OTWOL is also a soap opera of ABS-CBN that was shown in other countries like Indonesia and Thailand. The cast of this soap opera was the popular tandem and ex-couple JADINE or James Reid and Nadine Lustre. It was said that OTWOL is the couple’s first breakout show in 2015 where their relationship went from reel to real. James also confess his love for Nadine in the series finale of OTWOL and in front of many people.
Marimar was a Mexican tv series that was recreated by GMA 7 in 2007. Playing the leading role of the Filipino adaptation of Marimar are Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes and this is where their on and off-screen romance started. The said adaptation of Marimar became a top rated tv series in Cambodia. GMA 7 recreated again the Marimar in 2015 and it was played by Megan Young and Tom Rodriguez.
4. Be Careful With My heart
Be careful with my heart is the longest morning show of ABS-CBN and was also shown in other countries including Vietnam from 2013 to 2015 and was also a top rated tv series in Malaysia. Be careful with my heart is a story of Maya, played by Jodi Sta Maria, who dream of becoming a stewardess. In order to fulfill her dream she needed the help of Richard “Sir Chief” Lim, played by Richard Yap, who was a pilot in the story. Jodi is the nanny of Richard’s 3 children and along the way she finds herself falling in love with Richard Lim.
Dyesebel is GMA 7’s fantaseries in 2008 where they recreated the story of the popular mermaid that was played by Marian Rivera. Dyesebel was also shown in other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia. Aside from GMA, ABS-CBN also recreated Dyesebel in 2014 where Anne Curtis played the iconic role of popular mermaid.
6. My Husband’s Lover
My husband’s lover of GMA 7 in 2013 was considered as their bold move because the plot of the story is different from the network’s past tv dramas. In this story, the husband (Tom Rodriguez) is the one who has an affair but not with a woman but with another man and he need to choose between his wife (Carla Abellana) and his lover (Dennis Trillo). My Husband’s Lover was aired in Bangkok, Thailand.
Amaya is a TV series of GMA 7 starring Marian Rivera, from 2011 to 2012. It is a story of a pre-colonial period tribal princess who became the savior of their land against Rajah Mangubat. Amaya was aired in Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea and Malaysia.
